The greater blue-ringed octopus is one of the most infamous sea animals that our planet has to offer. It is the biggest species of the genus Hapalochlaena, more commonly known as blue-ringed octopuses. The one distinctive feature that makes the blue-ringed octopuses so deadly, is their toxicity. Their venom is one of the most dangerous and there still hasn't been found an anti-venom yet.

However the greater blue-ringed octopus also is notable due to its vivid cloud scheme, that easily makes them not only one of the deadliest, but also beautiful animals. These features also were responsible for the name of the greater blue-ringed octopus as it is not particularly large, but instead the name refers to the ring size.

Greater blue-ringed octopuses can be found all over the western Pacific Ocean, normally in reefs. That makes them the most common and wide-spread species of blue-ringed octopus.
