Turtle Trek’s main focus is to rehabilitate marine turtles. Currently, the aquarium houses two species: leatherback sea turtle and green sea turtle. Each species has its own rehabilitation center; both buildings are connected with a glass tunnel (only accessible to the staff and special VIP-visitors). Both centers are housing injured turtles, which will be released back into the wild once they are healthy again.
The aquarium itself is decorated in a tropical style to represent the environment in which green sea turtles can be found: reefs and tropical coasts. In the begining, the center only housed green sea turtles, but with the arrival of a new species, the aquarium was expanded, and a leatherback sea turtle was added. Alterations were a necessity, as leatherback sea turtles are tricky to house. The aquarium now perfectly fits the needs of both species. The guests can enjoy a tropical feeling that is achieved by the use of tropical plants and corals in the basins.
